Topological defects as seeds for eternal inflation.

چکیده

We investigate the global structure of inflationary universe both by analytical methods and by computer simulations of stochastic processes in the early Universe. We show that the global structure of inflationary universe depends crucially on the mechanism of inflation. In the simplest models of chaotic inflation with the effective potentials φ or e the Universe looks like a sea of thermalized phase, surrounding permanently self-reproducing inflationary domains. On the other hand, in the theories where inflation may occur near a local extremum of the effective potential corresponding to a metastable state, the Universe looks like de Sitter space surrounding islands of thermalized phase. A similar picture appears even if the state φ = 0 is unstable but the effective potential has a discrete symmetry, e.g. the symmetry φ →= −φ. In this case the Universe becomes divided into domains containing different phases (η or −η). These domains will be separated from each other by domain walls. However, unlike ordinary domain walls often discussed in the literature, these domain walls will inflate, and their thickness will exponentially grow. In the theories with continuous symmetries inflation will generate exponentially expanding strings and monopoles surrounded by thermalized phase. Inflating topological defects will be stable, and they will unceasingly produce new inflating topological defects. This means that topological defects may play a role of indestructible seeds for eternal inflation.

Monopoles as Big as a Universe

We show that, contrary to the standard belief, primordial monopoles expand exponentially during inflation in the new inflationary universe scenario. Moreover, inflation of monopoles continues without an end even when inflation ends in the surrounding space. Therefore primordial monopoles (as well as other topological defects produced during inflation) can serve as seeds for the process of etern...

1 Topological Defect Inflation ∗

We address some issues of topological defect inflation. (1) We clarify the causal structure of an inflating magnetic monopole. The spacetime diagram shows explicitly that this model is free from the “graceful exit” problem, while the monopole itself undergoes “eternal inflation”. (2) We extend the study of inflating topological defects to Brans-Dicke gravity. Contrary to the case of Einstein gr...

Inflation in uplifted Supergravities

We present a model of slow-roll inflation in the context of effective Supergravities arising from string theories. The uplifting of the potential (to generate dS or Minkowski vacua) is provided by the D-term associated to an anomalous U(1), in a fully consistent and gauge invariant formulation. We develop a minimal working model which incorporates eternal topological inflation and complies with...

On the Topological Phases of Eternal Inflation

Eternal inflation is a term that describes a number of different phenomena which have been classified by Winitzki. According to Winitzki’s classification these phases can be characterized by the topology of the percolating structures in the inflating, “white,” region. In this paper we discuss these phases, the transitions between them, and the way they are seen by a “Census Taker”; a hypothetic...

Hawking-Moss Tunneling in Noncommutative Eternal Inflation

The quantum behavior of noncommutative eternal inflation is quite different from the usual knowledge. Unlike the usual eternal inflation, the quantum fluctuation of noncommutative eternal inflation is suppressed by the Hubble parameter. Due to this, we need to reconsider many conceptions of eternal inflation. In this paper we study the Hawking-Moss tunneling in noncommutative eternal inflation ...
